Dr. Dimitra Dimopoulou, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Pediatrics-Infectious Diseases at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA)
Dr. Dimitra Dimopoulou, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics-Infectious Diseases at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA). She graduated from the Medical School of Heraklion, Crete, and subsequently worked as a researcher at the same university, where she completed her doctoral dissertation in the field of infectious diseases, receiving two excellence scholarships during the first and second year of her PhD.
She specialized at the 3rd Pediatric Clinic of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) at the University General Hospital “Attikon.” In September-October 2017, she traveled to the USA, where she attended the Department of Pediatric Infections at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Pennsylvania. From 2020 to 2022, she completed her fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the 2nd Pediatric Clinic of NKUA at “Panagiotis & Aglaia Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital. From 2022 to 2024, she worked as a Consultant of Pediatrics-Infectious Diseases at the 2nd Pediatric Clinic of Athens Children’s Hospital “Agia Sofia.”
Her field of interest includes pediatric infections. Since December 2020, she has been collaborating with other hospitals abroad (in Europe and the USA), participating in research protocols and contributing to the development of European guidelines by ESCMID as a member of the ESCMID Study Group for Respiratory Viruses (ESGREV).
To date, she has published 100 articles in international journals and has contributed to six book chapters in both Greek and English medical books. She has also actively participated in numerous medical conferences, delivering mumerous presentations at international and Greek conferences, for which she has received three excellence awards. She is editor for two international journals and serves as a reviewer for the editorial board of several medical journals.
Additionally, she has participated in several research programs and has been involved in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate students. She is a member of the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID), the General Medical Council, UK, and the European Society of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ESCMID). Finally, she is a member of the Committee for Sustainability and Green Practices and serves as Greece’s young representative at the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID).
