Adolescent Health Unit
The Adolescent Health Unit (M.E.Y.) of the Second Pediatric Clinic of the University of Athens, P. & A. Kyriakou Children’s Hospital, Eleni Dalakoura Wing, is aimed at adolescents aged 11-18 and provides services covering the range of needs of this age group. The main reasons for visiting are developmental issues, endocrinological issues, obesity, eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia), gynecological issues, psychosocial issues, learning difficulties, school phobia, family dysfunction, contraception/sex education, career guidance, vaccinations, etc. Since February 2013, the M.E.Y. has also been operating as a Medical-Educational Center of the Ministry of Health.
The M.E.Y. is a model structure for the organization of health services related to adolescence. Scientists with significant knowledge and experience in adolescent medicine participate in the numerous specialized departments of the M.E.Y. One of the main objectives of the M.E.Y. is to educate students, trainees, doctors, and other professionals in adolescent medicine, given that this field is just beginning to develop in our country.
In this context, annual “State of the Art” Intensive Seminars on Adolescent Medicine are organized in collaboration with important institutions, which have now become an institution in our country.
