Artemis K.Tsitsika is Professor Afilliated and National Representative of the UNESCO Chair for Global Health and Education (GHE) and WHO Collaborating Centre. She is Associate Professor of Pediatrics-Adolescent Medicine and Chair of the Master of Science Program “Strategies of Developmental and Adolescent Health” of the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) www.youth-med.uoa.gr She is also the founding Head of the Adolescent Health Unit (A.H.U.) of the Second Dpt of Pediatrics NKUA, “P. & A. Kyriakou” Children’s Hospital.
She graduated from the Medical School of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (N.K.U.A.) and was trained in Pediatrics at the First Dpt of Pediatrics – “Agia Sophia” Children’s Hospital. After her specialty degree, she specialized in all topics of the field of Adolescent Medicine, in specialized University centres in Greece, Europe and the U.S.A.
She is the founding Head of the Adolescent Health Unit (A.H.U.), Second Dpt of Pediatrics, “P. & A. Children’s” Hospital, which has been certified as a “youth friendly” service, based on the existing guidelines, by the World Health Organization (WHO) in April 2018. AHU was also awarded by the Institute of Digital Biomedicine as a service offering Digital Literacy and Social Emotional Empowerement to children, adolescents and families in 2024 and as a wellbeing service in 2025 by UNESCO Chair GHE.
She has been the supervisor of Train the Trainer protocols of the Greek Ministry of Health during Covid-19 and is also the President of the Ministry of Health Committee for Gender Amendment for Minors.
She has received National and International Awards for her scientific contributions, and also was distinguished as scientist establishing the field of Adolescent Medicine in Greece.
She has served as Visiting Professor at Western Michigan University and University of Nicosia, as well as Adjunct Professor at the University of Kentucky, USA. She has been the Organizing President of Greek and International Conferences, State of the ART Courses, Winter and Summer Schools and Community Programmes for Schools, Parent Academies etc
She has been invited Speaker to numerous Greek and International Conferences. Her research interests focus on the prevention and intervention for the wellbeing of children and adolescents, e.g. developmental health topics, mental health, social pediatrics, nutrition and eating disorders, obesity, pediatric and adolescent gynaecology, endocrinology, sexuality topics, school and learning difficulties, internet safety and addiction, child abuse, youth deliquency and violence, chronic diseases etc
She has signed ongoing MoUs with the Greek Ministies of Health, Education and Justice, the International Society for Social Pediatrics (ISSOP), UNESCO ITE and UNESCO GHE, as well as THALPOS Mental Health and Hellenic Healthy Cities Network – Health Promotion. She is the Author and Editor of numerous books, in Greece and abroad, and also the author of books for Children. She has published hundreds of articles in peer reviewed Journals and has been awarded for her research on Covid-19 concequences to child somatic and mental health. She received the 2021 Best Paper Award of “Children’s” Journal (Children’s Best Paper Award 2021).
She is the President of Directory Boards of the Scientific Organization “FOR Adolescent Health” www.youth-life.gr and the “Greek Society for Adolescent Medicine” www.youth-med.gr and Editor in Chief of the Journals “Pediatric Reports” and “Journal of Developmental and Adolescent Health- JDAH”.
