ALEXANDRA SOLDATOU
Professor of Pediatrics at the 2nd Department of Pediatrics, NKUA, at the Children’s Hospital of Athens “P. & A. Kyriakou".
Alexandra Soldatou is Professor of Pediatrics at the 2nd Department of Pediatrics, NKUA, at the Children’s Hospital of Athens “P. & A. Kyriakou”. Alexandra ranked first in the graduating class of Moraitis School in 1991 and the same year entered the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), Medical School, having ranked 3rd among first time exam takers in the National University Entry Examinations. She obtained her Medical Degree in 1997, ranking 5th among graduates. As a medical student she completed clinical rotations in France (Université de Paris VI) and the USA (University of Minnesota & Johns Hopkins University). She is a native English and Greek speaker, proficient in French and German, and has basic communication skills in Spanish.
Alexandra obtained Medical Licensure, U.S.A. (USMLE) in 1998 and having completed Residency in General Pediatrics at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, U.S.A. (1999-2002), she obtained certification in General Pediatrics by the American Board of Pediatrics in 2002. She completed a Clinical Fellowship at the Department of Immunology, Infectious Diseases and Bone Marrow Transplantation, Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, London, U.K. (2002-2003). Alexandra was awarded a Doctorate Degree in hematopoietic stem cell biology by the NKUA Medical School in 2006.
Alexandra has served the NKUA Medical School as a full-time staff Pediatrician since 2004, initially at the 1st Dept. of Pediatrics NKUA, and subsequently (2008) at the 2nd Dept. of Pediatrics NKUA. Since 2018, she holds a concurrent academic appointment at the 3rd Dept. of Pediatrics NKUA. She visited Yale University twice to work on child abuse and neglect prevention programs, in 2017 as a US Department of State Scholar and in 2022 as a Fulbright Scholar. Alexandra is the Director of the Child Safety Care Unit of the 2nd Department of Pediatrics NKUA at the Children’s Hospital of Athens, “P. & A. Kyriakou”, and coordinates the replication of the clinical child safety care model at university pediatric departments in collaboration with ELIZA Society.
Alexandra serves the NKUA Medical School as the Director of the Elective Undergraduate course “Child Safety Care”, member of the Erasmus/CIVIS committee, academic coordinator of medical student exchanges for Université de Lille, Université libre de Bruxelles and the University of Łódź, and member of the coordination committee of the postgraduate course “Pediatric Infectious Diseases”. She also teaches in other postgraduate programs of the NKUA, University of West Attica, University of Thessaly, and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Alexandra conducts interuniversity interactive educational programs for health care professionals in collaboration with members from all university pediatric departments in Greece, and Professors from Yale University and Dartmouth College. She is a member of national and international scientific societies, including Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) and Member of the Ray Helfer Society. She is on the Board of Directors of three scientific societies and ELIZA Society. Alexandra has given numerous talks in educational events of NGOs, local, national and international conferences.
Alexandra strives to provide high quality health care services for children and their families, develop innovative educational programs for health care professionas and conduct clinically applicable research.
